The beta version of Microsoft software formerly known as SoftGrid produced some "astonishing savings" according to a hospital case study. The hospital deployed System Center Application Management Server and Systems Center Application Streaming Server, both shipping as part of the Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack and Microsoft Application Virtualization for Terminal Services packages.
The software enables systems administrators to deploy and support applications across an enterprise through virtualization. In addition specialized applications can be changed, updated, and patched centrally. The mantra is any application on any computer on demand. The hospital reported a drop in support call volume of 20% and a decrease in end user downtime of about 80%.
A hospital spokesman says, "We turned our entire environment into a dynamic, service-based infrastructure. We can update even the most complex package for all our computers in one easy step."
